Trauma Informed System

At The Child's Dignity, our commitment to providing trauma support services to children is rooted in a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes the dignity and well-being of every individual involved in our system, including the children, caregivers, and service providers.

Within our institution, we integrate and uphold awareness, knowledge, and skills related to trauma throughout our organizational culture, practices, and policies.

As part of our trauma-informed perspective, The Child's Dignity implements the following programs:

  1. Child Welfare

At The Child's Dignity, we often encounter children and families who come to our attention through the child welfare system due to suspected abuse or neglect. This abuse ranges from domestic violence, community violence, poverty, neglect, medical trauma, accidents, bullying, loss & grief, family disfunction and many other stressors.

Under the child welfare function we have:

  • Child welfare officers whose function is to receive trauma cases, investigate, asses and recommend an intervention mechanism. The officers work closely with our mental health experts, law enforcement agencies and also carry out community outreach and education services.
  • 24 hour dedicated child hotline whose main responsibility is to receive emergency cases that require immediate intervention, coordinate intervention mechanism until a child welfare officer takes up the case.
  1. Mental Health Support Services.
In partnership with CHIROMO HOSPITAL, which is a premier leading treatment facility that specializes in diagnosis, treatment and management of adults, adolescents and children who suffer from a spectrum of mental health disorders, The Child’s Dignity deploys mental health experts to take affected children through a recovery role after the traumatic events. Through their recommendations, extra support is also offered to the affected children to receive justice and also get educational support to be able to continue with their education.
  1.  Justice
Unresolved posttraumatic stress symptoms can lead to serious long-term consequences across the entire lifespan, such as problems with interpersonal relationships, cognitive functioning, mental health disorders, substance abuse, anxiety, disordered eating, depression, self-injury and conduct problems. In partnership with our legal partners, Rosemary Thiong’o and Associates, we ensure that trauma victims feel that the perpetrators have been punished, which is a key stage in full recovery.
  1.  Education

We offer Education scholarships to the affected children way from pre-school to higher education level. We value education as a key component in children empowerment and trauma recovery.
